Career

My future career is to be a lecturer. I want to be a lecturer because I can teach the subject that I am good and interested in. I can also pass on my knowledge to other people. The salary is also quite reasonable.
The job responsibilities of a lecturer teach and tutor in his/her area of specialization. He/She supervises students in their assignments, projects and practical work. A Lecturer also administers, evaluates and marks tests and examination papers. Research in his/her field of interest and the publication of such research material are part of a Lecturer's job. In addition, he/she may take on consultancy work or conduct seminars/workshops for outside agencies.
In order to qualify to become a lecturer, the minimum entry qualification in most disciplines is a Doctoral degree or equivalent. However, university honours graduates with outstanding academic records can start as senior tutor. For professional disciplines like Medicine, Dentistry and Law, you must have the basic academic qualification plus a relevant higher professional or academic qualification. The minimum entry qualification for teaching positions at polytechnics is a recognized university degree in the relevant discipline. Those with at least two years of relevant industrial experience, professional and postgraduate qualifications are preferred. You will also need to have personal qualities like interest in and love for the subject, a keen mind, ability to communicate the subject matter, understanding of students’ needs, ability to interact with students, interest in research and development and lastly, administrative skills.
In order to be able to get this job, I will study hard for O levels and focus more a subject which I like. Then I will proceed to polytechnic or junior college depending on which has the course that I want. Then I will go to university and study Bachelor first, then Master Degree and lastly PHD. The future career prospects of this job is, you start out as either a lecturer or senior lecturer then you can get promoted to principal lecturer. Next you can get promoted to associate professor and then lastly to professor. This is for polytechnics. For universities, you start out as either a lecturer with a PHD or without PHD then u can get promoted to senior lecturer. For lecturer with PHD, the pay is higher. Then from senior lecturer, you can get promoted to asst professor with a PHD or without a PHD. Then from asst professor, you can get promoted to associate professor and lastly, professor.
I have been trying to speak more English and revise the subject which I wanted to teach. I will also try my best to get good results for other subjects but my main focus will be on the subject which I wanted to teach. (462 words)
